About Dr. Desai

Dr. Sarang Desai, a native of Texas, is a fellowship-trained board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of foot and ankle injuries and conditions. These conditions include sports injuries, fractures, joint replacement, dislocations, arthritis, sprains, strains, and complex deformities of the foot and ankle. He treats patients ranging from young children to adults.

Dr. Desai is the only Orthopaedic Surgeon Fellowship Trained in Foot and Ankle surgery practicing in Allen extending north to Oklahoma and is the only orthopedic surgeon in McKinney focusing his practice 100% on foot and ankle injuries and disorders.

Dr. Desai was an All-American athlete at the University of Texas, where he received his undergraduate degree. Given his athletic background, he is experienced in sports-related injuries to the foot and ankle and believes in a rapid safe return to athletic activities. Dr. Desai has a passion for treating all types of athletes, from your weekend warrior to elite athletes all over North Texas.

Dr. Desai received his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at St. James Hospital in Chicago. Following residency, Dr. Desai was selected for one of only two coveted AO foot and ankle fellowships in the country at Michigan International Foot and Ankle Center in Detroit. AO is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of patient care in orthopedic surgery.

After, his outstanding work during his fellowship in complex foot and ankle surgery reconstruction, he was subsequently appointed to the prestigious AO North America faculty. In this role, he works to improve the care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and their sequelae from all over North America, through education and research in the principles, practice, and results of treatment.

Dr. Desai founded and served as medical director of multiple hospital-based foot and ankle programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth region, some of these programs are the first of their kind in North Texas. He created and became involved in these programs to provide excellence in foot and ankle care for patients in North Texas.

Dr. Desai research studies on foot and ankle cartilage restoration and reconstructive surgical techniques are regularly published in prominent medical journals. He has also been featured on, FootCareMD: the educational outreach of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. Additionally, Dr. Desai has served on the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Post-Graduate, the Education Committee, and has participated as a reviewer for the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances.

Dr. Desai believes strongly in both physician and patient education. He lectures nationally and internationally, instructing other surgeons and medical professionals on successful surgical treatment of traumatic injuries to the foot and ankle, ankle arthroscopy, and cartilage restoration techniques. He has provided lectures for the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society resident lecture series, and regularly writes educational articles for patients and medical providers on footEducation.com
